June 19, 2019

After spending time with friends we hit the road to continue our adventure. When we did the Great Loop in 2014 we stayed at the marina in Ludington, MI. This is where we saw the S.S. Badger Ferry. At that time we said, “One day we want to cross on her.” Well that day has arrived today.

We stayed at Poncho Pond RV Park for two nights. This is a great RV park

On Wednesday morning 6/19/19 we left the RV park 3 miles to board the SS Badger. The S.S. Badger is the largest cross-lake service on the Great Lakes between Ludington, MI. & Manitowoc, WI.  The 4 hours, 60 miles cruise, offers an authentic steamship experience. Our crossing departed at 9:00 am with our arrival time at the dock set for 8:00 am.

The RV and truck had to go on separately and we had to leave Jake in the RV. No pets allowed on the upper decks. A “pet on board” designation sign was places on the RV windshield. Vehicles with pets are loaded last to offer better air circulation.

Leaving Ludington Dock.

The weather for our crossing was cold, damp, and foggy so staying outside on the upper decks was not an option.

We opted to rent a stateroom for an additional $59.00 and it was worth every cent.   We were able to relax in our stateroom in between exploring the ship and having breakfast.

The Stateroom can be either a bed/desk combo or double bed along with a private restroom.

There is plenty to do in the common areas while crossing, Bingo, a movie room, TV viewing, and eating.

K9 Security checked all the vehicles in the parking lot before loading onto the S.S.Badger. Then we saw him on duty several times around the ship.

Docking in Manitowoc, WI. was amazing. The Captain leaves the Bridge and comes to the back of the ship to 'back her in'. Commands from the Captain to the engine room and bridge are done with 'bells and whistles". WOW!

We would highly recommend this adventure and would do it again.
